I'm not sure why medals to the FID are so appealing - other than the fact that I have never owned one

I like this combination that Lockdales have for sale on 16 May 15:

QSA with bars TH/RoL with KSA with bars SA01 & SA02 named to BR: J Zeiss Natal Vol: Amb: C. (KSA named Guide J M B Zeiss F.I.D.). Also entitled to bars OFS/Tr/LN ? GVF (2) Scarce. Estimate £300 - £350

OFS, Tr & LN are listed on the roll for the Imperial Bearer Corps.

Buxton's roll says there are 449 pair where the KSA is named to the FID and QSA to the parent unit.

BSACM, reverse Rhodesia 1896, (Troopr. W. Fielders, H.S.) - Honey's Scouts

Fielders is confirmed as one of just nine members of Honey’s Scouts to receive the BSACM for the Rhodesia 1896 operations, a small contingent of the unit having joined Alderson’s force at Beira in modern day Mozambique. Of his subsequent services in the Boer War as a Guide in the Intelligence Department, he is specifically cited for ‘gallantry’ in the London Gazette of 6 April 1901, his name appearing under a heading for Civil (British South Africa Territories): ‘Mr. W. Fielders of Bulawayo (gallantry)’

Well, I think if you have never owned a medal to a member of the FID and find them so appealing, it would perhaps be time to put your hand in your pocket?

The pair to Fielders just sold for £2,200 (hammer).

Not cheap, they paid a premium for Honey and the citation. But how much more can you find out?

Spink has a QSA/KSA with the KSA to the FID on tonight, for an estimate a tenth of that. It might do.

Medal Roll gives ‘Lost Medal replaced 22.2.1917’. He is not listed as entitled to the ‘Belfast’ clasp.
