David. Frank, Ryan and anyone interested
Well, IL had a good stab at the Fielders pair on DNW. Prior to looking at the egg money, out came IL's well thumbed copy of "Bidding for QSA medals at Auction" by Nostradamus (no ISBN :) ) and - swallowing hard at the thought of STG 2.2 plus commission - in went his bid. The pair was duly knocked down at just that price and - lack of a Winning Notification email makes it plain that IL's bid was lodged after that of the winner's.
Congratulations to the winning bidder of the Fielders pair. IL hopes it was a member of this Forum.
Regards to all
IL.

That's a disappointment IL. Sounds like you were frustratingly close.

It wasn't me, it was too rich for my blood to even bid.

Have you looked at your account online to check?

Is there more to his story than the catalogue had as it seems a lot of money? Maybe I just don't understand it enough.

But think of it like this. You can still afford eggs and therefore did actually win!

And I bet you get in when it comes up next time!

David and Ryan
Thanks for the kind words. Ryan, yes it was expensive - however the pair would have fitted in nicely! The combination of a BSACM and a QSA always attracted me. FID medals named as such are very nice and not all that common; wheras those to Intelligence Dept (forerunner to FID) are very much less common still. The Corps of Guides always struck me positively.
Never mind, eggs back on the menu and not baked beans on toast.

Hello David,
Well, if all you actually want is a medal named to the FID, the good news is that they are certainly not too hard to find and you certainly will not have to pay anything remotely like that to obtain one!
Any good medal to a member with prior SAMIF service is the way to go.
Regards Frank
