MBE London Gazette 12 December 1919.

Robert Ashton initially served during the Boer War as a Corporal at No. 15 Stationary Hospital at Heidelberg. Equipped with 150 beds, it operated from 13 July 1900 to 31 May 1902, one of 42 Stationary Hospitals which proved instrumental in saving the lives of wounded men and those suffering from disease. Advanced Sergeant Major on 10 August 1914, he served during the Great War on the Western Front from 27 August 1914 and was appointed to a commission as Honorary Lieutenant and Quartermaster in the R.A.M.C. on 5 June 1915. Advanced Captain and Quartermaster, for his valuable service as part of the British Salonica Force he was created a MBE in 1919.

Edgar Vivian Ayre Phipps, was born on 3 February 1857, and was appointed Surgeon (Captain) on the Medical Staff on 3 February 1883. He served in the operations in Zululand of 1888, was promoted to Major on 3 February 1895.

During the Boer War he was attached to the 10th Hussars. QSA listed on WO100/116p110. M&S state 'participating in several actions including the Battle of Modder River (roll confirms, attached 10th Hussars)' but this is not supported by the QSA roll. KSA listed on WO100/351p16

He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 20 February 1903 and retired on 27 May of the same year. He rejoined for additional service during the Great War and was Mentioned in Despatches in the London Gazette of 19 September 1917

Arthur Jones was born in Birmingham in 1882 and attested for the Royal Army Medical Corps on 9 March 1901, having previously served in the 5th (Militia) Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He served with No. 5 General Hospital, Pretoria, during the latter months of the Boer War, departing for South Africa on 20 December 1901, and saw further service during the Great War with the 8th Field Ambulance on the Western Front from 20 August 1914.

DSO London Gazette 1 January 1917: ‘For distinguished service in the Field.’

Charles William Profeit was born at Tarland, Aberdeenshire on 23 August 1870, the second son of Dr Alexander Profeit, Commissioner to Queen Victoria at Balmoral. Educated at Aberdeen University, he qualified with a MB and CM in 1893. Commissioned a Surgeon-Lieutenant in January 1895 and promoted to Surgeon-Captain in January 1898, he served with the RAMC in the Boer War. He was present in the advance upon Kimberley, including the actions at Belmont, Enslin, Modder River and Magersfontein. Operations in the Orange Free State, February-May 1900, including actions at Poplar Grove, Driefontein, Vet River and Zand River. Operations in the Transvaal in May/June 1900, including actions near Johannesburg, Pretoria and Diamond Hill. Operations in the Transvaal east of Pretoria, July-November 1900, including the action at Belfast. He was promoted to Major in October 1906.

Profeit served during the Great War and was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel in March 1915 and was Temporary Colonel whilst ADMS of a division, January 1916. For his services he was five times Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazettes 19 October 1914, 17 February 1915, 4 January 1917, 24 December 1917, 30 December 1918), was awarded the Distinguished Service Order, and was created a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George. Post-war, he served on the North-West Frontier of India, being again Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 3 August 1920) and was created a Companion of the Order of the Star of India. Placed on Retired Pay in 1924, he died on 5 February 1937.

George Albert Street served with the Volunteer Medical Staff Corps, Manchester. He died on 11 August 1900 from Enteric Fever and Meningitis at the Military Hospital, Cape Town, being one of just three casualties of this unit (Manchester Courier and Lancashire General Advertiser, refer).
