A really nice group Rory. I've always wanted a single of group to the Natal police with Defence of Ladysmith but I don't recall ever seeing one on the market.

I wonder why the 1906 Medal is always so lightly impressed. Is it that the naming machine was a little too large for the size of the medal?

I suspect that the naming reflects the fact that this was the first and only job of its kind done by the manufacturers of this medal. Although it seems unlikely that the production of the medal was done in Maritzburg, the dies did turn up there a decade or two ago. Their discoverer(s) presented them to a local museum.
