Deblev21,

The very latest post is a medal coming up at auction but most of the past posts relate to medals sold, usually at auction. The medal to William Yallup was sold in the great City Coins auction.

Morning first post! I have just purchased the Driver Carlyon medal information gratefully received. Where can I find the man? Dob? Place of birth? Service after 1902? Any assistance appreciated regards Charles

Welcome Myer.

There are two Carlyons on the GCR roll. Which one is yours?

It must be Driver W Carlyon as the medal to Fireman P J Carlyon was returned.

W Carlyon's no clasp medal is verified on the roll the GCR (WO100/279p32). He also served in the Beaufort West Town Guard.

A note on the roll says 'Working trains in the theatre of war. Resigned 30.4.02'

He is listed as W J Carlyon on the Beaufort West Town Guard roll, WO100/280p111, with a note saying that the medal issued here was returned to the authorities as a duplicate in 1910.

No obvious matches on FamilySearch in South Africa but worth another, wider search as is the South African Archives. There is a W J Carlyon born St Glucas, Cornwall in 1877 as an example.

Yesterday I had my 1st QSA, to W. Carlyon, today I've added W. Ward. I'm so stoked to have these 2 Railway Drivers medals.
