QSA (6) Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Johannesburg, Paardeberg, Transvaal, Wepener (4502 Tpr: S.Fowler. Kitchener's Horse.)

Noble Numismatics say:

'Not entitled to Wepener clasp which is a copy, toned, a few small dark spots, otherwise very fine.

Ex Dr John M. Bennett AM Collection.

Trooper Sydney John Fowler, Kitchener's Horse; Enl.16Apr1900; Disch.12Dec1900 Medically Unfit.'

Entitlement from WO100/256p34 is CC, OFS and Joh, ie his first three clasp, Noble do not mention the rivets after Johannesburg which will be unofficial.

ATTESTATION PAPERS

Could anyone on the forum please inform me if attestation papers exist for Kitchener's Horse? I am researching a recent acquisition and any extra information from any extant paperwork would be invaluable!
In hope.....
Cheers Steve

Steve,

Yes, there are 6 boxes of them in the range WO100/126/83-88.

This page list all the South African units and the existence, or not, of attestation papers.

David,
Many thanks for offering to find attestation papers for KH.
Unfortunately, the man whose QSA I have has a surname beginning with 'R'.

4510 Trooper Frederick Michael Raphael (also served with Midland Mounted Rifles after KH)

4510 TPR F. RAPHAEL. KITCHENER'S HORSE

Naming style of KH. Note the drilled out CAPE COLONY clasp, hence clasps as detailed on Medal Roll WO100/256 missing from the medal.

WO100/256 for Kitchener's Horse showing entitlement to clasps CAPE COLONY/JOHANNESBURG/DIAMOND HILL/WITTEBERGEN.

WO100/259 for Midland Mounted Rifles

Served with KH during a very active period of their service during the conflict as evidenced by his clasp entitlement.
Attested 16th April 1900 and discharged on 23rd March 1901 time expired.

Attested to Midland Mounted Rifles on 28th August 1901 as Trooper 274, and discharged on 31st May 1902.
