Hi All

This medal to Turner was purchased in this condition from the Late Phillip Burman on the 25/09/2010 and there is no reason to believe that this highly respected medal dealer would have allowed copy or fake clasps to be sold on a medal, in his name.

To further support what Brian has stated above I attach a copy of the original invoice from Phillip Burman dated 2010 when the medal was purchased for GBP 495.

As can be seen the two battle bars are quoted and I can only assume that the date bar, to which he was entitled, was added by the then purchaser at a later stage. The Elandslaagte and DofL clasps are original.

Rory

Turner's medal is very shiny, why? This could effect the authenticity look of the clasps.

The SA01 clasp was definitely attached to another clasp, the rivets look good (from here) - what date was the SA01 clasp issued? It could have been issued just like that, i.e. recycled from an un-issued/returned medal.

Rory,

When I saw the clasps in the picture, it reminded me very much of the silver, copy clasps that Chris Dixon sells for around £12. I bought a few of these in the past and have to keep them separated from my other loose clasps because they are very good copies. Being newly manufactured, they have that shiny appearance that Meurig mentions.

Kind regards
David

The clasps look fine to me, I also have purchased from Philip and the medal arrived and was just as polished and bright as your example, I suspect that it was just well and thoroughly cleaned and polished for sale, and that there was no intent to deceive by the dealer.

Thanks Jon

As promised and in an effort to end the debate on the veracity or otherwise of the clasps I append a few photos of the Turner medal "undressed" as it were.

Regards

Rory
