Elsewhere on this forum I posed a question as to what had happened on 21 January 1902 and where - the reason was because I was negotiating for the QSA to Herbert Ralph Manning of the 51st Company, Imperial Yeomanry. This young gentleman perished at Treurfontein (now known as Coligny) when his company were attacked along with members of the B.S.A.P.

I have now received this medal and would like to ask if members think it possible (going on the additional photos provided) that the box/case is an official issue? As you can see from the label - it looks to me - to have come from the authorities that way.

The few examples of the original cardboard boxes I have seen were not like that you illustrate. It is possible that a relative of your man cut his name and unit off the medal box envelope and stuck them on the privately purchased box.
