Hello Mike,
Very many thanks indeed, so this shows only 294,052 actually issued, so indeed far less a number than that of those entitled!
I am a bit surprised though, I would have assumed the number actually issued would have been higher, as David has said with some 300,000 names on this site.
An interesting future project would be to count the total number on the actual medal rolls themselves, as some of those who are just on the nominal rolls may not have received a medal.
Frank.

Forum members: well, that was an interesting exercise with two major reference books proved to be wrong on QSA numbers. I wonder if any shortfall in medals available (then or later) was met by reimpressing unclaimed examples?
Excellent effort overall.

Good Morning Everyone.....

Reading this more closely I think that this is the report up to February of 1901 only......

You do sometimes see a large proportion of renamed medals to certain units, the Farmers Guard is a clasic case in point!

Hello Mike,
Am waiting for your update!
But, you know there are still plenty of QSA's around to keep us all going for years, regardless of how many were issued!
Frank.

Mike,

Thank you for this. A very useful find. Do you know the source of the information? Is it possible there is a later record, from 1902 or 1903?

That date of Feb 1901 is important. There are many QSA rolls dated after this date so I am now wondering to what extend the Mint created medals in anticipation of the demand or how much the production of new medals was driven by the arrival of rolls?
