Another group from Bonhams worthy of inclusion in this thread. These are the awards of Major-General J.G.MacNeece, RAMC.

CB (m), The Order of St.John, Honorary Associate's breast badge, 1911 Delhi Durbar (Surgeon General J.G.MacNeece. C.B.), Afghanistan (1) Kandahar (Surgeon.J.G.Macneece. A.M.B.), QSA (3) Natal, Tr SA01 (Colonel.J.G.MacNeece. R.A.M.C.), Portugal, Order of St.Maurice and St.Lazarus, Italy, Messina Earthquake Merit Medal 1908, Italy, Messina Earthquake Medal.

Major-General James Gaussen MacNeece was born at Arboe, Co.Tyrone on 27th February 1856, he was educated at the Royal School, Dungannon, he gained his medical knowledge in Dublin and obtained the Diploma L.R.C.P. & S.I. in 1877. In 1878 he entered the Army Medical Service as a Surgeon. He was promoted to Surgeon-Major in 1890, Lieutenant-Colonel in the RAMC in 1898. Colonel in 1905, and Surgeon-General in 1910. He served in the Afghan War of 1878-80; Bozdar Field Force, 1881; Zhob Valley, 1884;

He served in South Africa 1900-01, when he was mentioned in despatches.

He was appointed Principal Medical Officer of Malta in 1905, and the Order of St.Maurice and St.Lazarus was conferred upon him by His Majesty the King of Italy, for his services in connection with the Messina Earthquake in 1908. In 1911 he was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath. He was Principal Medical Officer of the Lucknow Division, India, from 1910-11. At the start of the WW1 he was appointed Deputy Director of Medical Services of the Central Force, and was subsequently transferred to India and officiated as Director of Medical Services (temporary) from 1915 to 1917, when he was invalided home, but never completely recovered from his illness. He was placed on retired pay in 1917 and was promoted Major-General on the retired list in 1918. He died on the 13th December 1919.

His particular rank made him entitled to recieve both decorations at any time.

The medals to Colonel R A De B Rose:

Colonel Richard Aubrey De Burgh Rose was born on the 9th May 1877, he was the son of Surgeon General H.J.Rose and was educated at Dover College. He joined the Worcestershire Regiment from the 3rd East Surrey Regiment in April 1900 and served in South Africa from 1900-02 with the 2nd Batallion, he served in Operations in the Transvaal from October to the 29th November 1900, then as Railway Staff Officer from the 22nd December 1901 to 4th January 1902.

He was seconded for service with the Gold Coast Regiment of the West African Field Force in 1906. He became second in Command in 1911 and then Commanded the Regiment from 1914-22. Served in Cameroon and Nigeria from the 14th September 1914 to the 18th February 1916. He then served in British, German and Portuguese East Africa, Nyasaland and Northen Rhodesia from 28th July 1916 to 29th June 1918.His service in WW1 saw him in the Cameroons and East Africa, he was mentioned in General Dobell's Despatch on its successful conclusion.

He was retired pay in 1922. He lived at 82 Redcliffe Gardens, London.

3) France, Republic, Institut Historique de France Great Gold Medal, neck Badge, silver-gilt and enamel

The QSA (5) CC TH OFS RoL Tr is named to Lieut. H.F.N. Jourdain, 1st Connaught Rang:

Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Francis Newdigate Jourdain,CMG was born in March 1872, the fourth son of the Reverend F. Jourdain, Vicar of Ashbourne, and was educated at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Ashbourne; Derby School; and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Connaught Rangers, February 1893, and promoted Lieutenant the following August, and served with the Regiment through the whole of the Boer War, during which he computed that he marched 4,774 miles; was present at the battles of Spion Kop and Colenso, and the Relief of Ladysmith; and was promoted Captain, 21.8.1900. ‘At the end of the War I had more service with the Battalion than any other officer, and had been out from the first. I had been specially recommended by Lord Kitchener in 1901 as “specially deserving for extra-regimental promotion”. At the conclusion of the war I was put head of the list by my C.O. for a DSO as a reward for continuous service throughout the war. I was finally selected to proceed home in charge of the Coronation Contingent. When we reached Southampton we heard of the serious operation on H.M. King Edward VII, and were sent away on six weeks’ leave. The Coronation Medals, which had been marked for us, were handed out to others in August 1902.’

Lieutenant-Colonel George Frederick Steele CMG was born in March 1871, and educated at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Royal Dragoons, September 1892, he was promoted Lieutenant the following November 1893, and after posting with the Regiment to York, Dublin, and Aldershot, he was appointed Adjutant in December 1898, before being promoted Captain in May 1899. Steele served with the Regiment in South Africa from November 1899, and was present at the Relief of Ladysmith, including the action at Colenso; the operations of the 5-7.2.1900, and the action at Val Kranz; the operations at Tugela Heights, 14-27.2.1900, and the actions at Pieters Hill; he took part in the operations in Natal, March to June 1900; in the Orange River Colony, June to November 1900; in the Transvaal, January to August 1901; in the Orange River Colony, August 1901 to March 1902; back in the Transvaal, March to May 1902; and in the Cape Colony, May 1902 (Twice Mentioned in Despatches, London Gazettes 8.2.1901 and 10.9.1901, and promoted Brevet Major, 29.11.1900).
