Once again I am very impressed! A medal to the Somali Burgher Contingent must be one of the most desirable, and elusive medals sought by South African collectors. Medals to 'Telegraph Guards' must also be amongst the rarest of the rare.

Regards
Brett

Henk,

I have never come across medals belonging to the Christiana DMR or the Somali Burgher Contingent before, any chance of more information. Who were they and what did they do?
Why would they be so desirable to South African collectors?
Is it because of their rarity in numbers, or is it because of what they achieved?
This aspect of the Boer War is a very steep learning curve for me.

Wombat,
James.

Mike,

I wanted to go back to your post from 2 months ago which included this group.

I share your view on the group!

In terms of who that is, it is intriguing.

I thought it may have been the attache Capt Slocum but he was not issued with the CB for the Boer War. The combination of CB and QSA is unusual.

I will see if I can find him.

Can you tell me the source of the image please?

With thanks
David

David,

Before you waste precious time, it's a photoshop representation of Slocum's group. See this link
