A frequent entrant in the defaulter's book? Still a shame that his medals have been split up.

The picture is useful as it shows the rounded edged to the rim usually seen on renamed medals. The rim was in stark contrast to the picture of the Winterburg Mounted Rifles QSA that Mike posted this week.

A lightly skimmed medal in which the original lettering is still visible:



Renamed to 3860 PTE. H. J. BRIAN. R. BERKS. REGT

From the next Lawrences Auctioneers sale and described as:

A Queen's South Africa Medal with Transvaal, Orange Free State and Cape Colony clasps, named to W. Bayliss, Special Scout. Possibly renamed.

The word 'possibly' is not needed.
