Hi David,

Auction 63 catalogue is intended to be released on the 8th March. That probably means sometime in March but certainly worth the wait as you are aware.

Cheers
Stephen

Frank,
Had a look today, and I agree with you.

Paul :)

Only one, Brett?

Brett Hendey wrote: I was wrong with my suspicion about the source of the Natal Rebellion medals. The suspected ones were all issued to officers and, presumably, have yet to appear on the market.

The QSA's and Rebellion medals are indeed very ordinary, although there is one amongst the latter that would fill a gap in my collection.

It was interesting to see the Natal Medal to the Y&L Regiment,

Natal 1906, 1 clasp, 1906 (Lt. R. Anderson, Lancs. & Yorks. Contg.) extremely fine £140-180

And unusual as the unit is given as Lancs & Yorks Contingent?

I would, of course, be happy to accommodate many of the Natal Rebellion medals listed but, in fact, there is really only one actual unfilled gap in my present collection and, for the sake of neatness, it should be filled.

David

Amongst the many of my files that went for recycling during our recent 'downsizing' was one on the Yorks & Lancs Contingent and I cannot now repeat its contents. However, this was in fact a locally raised 'contingent' of men and not the Y & L Regiment. No Imperial troops took part in putting down the rebellion and, in fact, there was a lot of criticism from Britain about the Colony's handling of the affair. (It prompted Winston Churchill to label Natal the "hooligan Colony" [cheeky devil!]). The image on the reverse of the Rebellion Medal showing Britannia supporting Natalia is a fiction. Perhaps it was intended to portray an "all is forgiven" by Britain after the Rebellion had been put down.

Brett
