Hello Adrian,
I think the Rand is at around 17 to the £ at the moment, but, you have to add the bits on, the last one I bought was around the £280 mark, but, that was 15 years ago! :(

It wasn't Swanepoel but I did think about it as that was my Mothers maiden name.

I bid on the ABO to the man who served in 1881 and defended against the Jameson raiders. I don't know if I got it or what it went for, no invoice for me yet :(

Just found the prices realised are on their site.

I got the QSA to van Eeden the Jameson defender, as well as a Kimberley Star, and the POW group to Dally. Happy with all that, it was more than I expected to get.

I am mainly happy with the van Eeden ABO, as I now have medals to a raider, someone on the Reform Committee and a defender.

Now to sweat while waiting for the invoice to make sure it is official!

Well done Ryan

I was really hoping to get Swanepoel as I have been looking for a Portugal internee.

Judged only from the 'prices realised' list, my bid for Lot 59 was successful:
QSA (TH, RoL), Tpr A R Smith, Murray's Scouts, + WWI pair.

The QSA ticks another 'must have' on my lengthy list. (Why does this list never shorten?) I already have a QSA to a man who served in Murray's Scouts, but it was named to the FID. This man was employed as an interpreter and was probably too decrepit to ride a horse, hence the need for the medal of a man who probably really was a scout.

I also have a QSA to the more numerous Murray's Horse, and I have resisted the temptation to purchase others. Murray's Horse and its descendant Murray's Scouts were raised mainly in the Mooi River area by a Natal politician, T K Murray, and represented his private response to the invading Boers after the Natal Government failed to act promptly to confront the invasion. A man of action (unusual in a politician), a private army, its period of existence, and its area of operation, appeal to me even though it was all of limited military significance.

Well I got 2 out of 4 bids (based on price list - no invoice yet) - but can't complain as got two QSA's with DoK bars - one took a leisurely stroll up to Mafeking so DoK/RoM - the other took what must have been a gallop to Paardeburg - so DoK/Paardeburg.
