Hello David,
A rather scarce and yet, inexpensive medal!
Robert Green was an 18 year old labourer from Norfolk when he joined the Manchester's on the 11th of October 1894, having been a member of the local Militia.
He served in South Africa with this fine regiment from the 28th of August 1899 and was wounded in the 1st Battalion's magnificent defence of Manchester Fort and Caesar's Camp on the 6th of January 1900 and was discharged unfit for further service on the 26th of July 1900 and returned to his family back in Norfolk, he had survived! :)

From a glance at the supplementary roll, Fee, appears to be entitled to a Cape Colony clasp too, a scarce medal, I would think this would certainly be worth rather more than five pounds and ten shilling's! :)

I'm very new to this so please bear with me. My granddad died at the battle of Elandslaagte 21 Oct 1899 Major H.W.D.DENNE.
My father Major V.A.H.D.Denne was born 09 Dec 1899...
I hope to travel south April/may this year I would appreciate any advice to help my journey to say hi to Granddad

Micky,

A trip to South Africa sounds great. You will be able to visit the battlefield of Elandslaagte and visit the grave to Major Denne.

I suggest you take a map of the battle so that you can trace the steps of the battle. Pam McFadden produced a very good, small booklet and map of the engagement which you can obtain.

The area is well signposted so you should have no trouble finding the site.

Where do you plan to stay in the area?

When you return, can you tell us about your visit. It would be very interesting to hear about.

Best wishes
David
