Hi everybody
I bought the St Leger QSA from Glendinings in June 1988 for R1 380- . I subsequently spent many hours in trying to trace relatives and to find some or all of the missing items. I eventually abandoned the search and sold the QSA to a local collector in May 1996 for R2 600 -

I was very chuffed to win the QSA to Captain Edward Lucas of the Natal Carbineers - he who died in Durban of Enteric Fever and Pneumonia on 7 August 1900.

If I add Captain (Dr) Buntine's medals along with that of Lt. David Sparks, I am slowly, growing my DoL NC Officers collection.

Regards

Rory

Rory,

That's a great purchase and a very nice NC collection.

Did anyone buy the Talana QSA to the Dundee RA, P G HILL? It was formerly in the Talana Museum but was not one of the medals stolen. How it came to be on the market is unclear but perhaps the owner withdrew it from the museum as we saw with the Natal Carbineers DCM.

Thank you David. Along with Colonel William Park Gray's medals (he was only an officer post Boer War) the collection is chugging along.

I am not altogether sure why I still collect to the NC as I no longer reside in their "catchment" area but there's something irresistible about the Natal theatre.

The new owner of Hill's QSA is a friend of mine but I don't think he wants his identity divulged. I think the hammer price excluding all the add-ons, was R11 000?
