Brett,

I hadn't given much thought to the correlation between location and the addition of copy clasps but that does make sense.

Most of the medals I see with copy clasps are where the recipient had no entitlement which meant there was no recourse to obtain the official versions of claaps.

That said, I have catalogues of few men of the LNLR who added the DoK (official) clasp despite there being no evidence as to their presence.

Best wishes
David

Good morning David,
I dare say that there were a few rather jealous and resentful souls in the 1st Loyals when the medals started to be issued.

Good Morning Frank.....

He rec'd his medal in London with the rest of the Strathcona's but did not receive the bars they were sent to him in early 1905, at first they could not find him and they were returned from last known address but he finally did get them in late 1905.....

It is 441 Corporal William Stewart Townsend.....

This picture was taken before I had the bar replaced.....

Mike

P.S. The name plate should actually read only Strathcona's Horse.....

I am assuming that particular medal was without the clasps he was entitled to when it was presented to him?
Which Townsend do you have, I think there were a couple of them?
Regards Frank

When I purchased my dated medal to Townsend the Natal bar was a copy but I had it removed and an proper bar inserted.....

Hi Mike,
Yes, I can see that perhaps I should give Tanya another call, interesting to note the initials on the roll entries in WO100 and the regts name too!
Kind regards Frank
