Hello David,

Thanks again for posting a pic of another super group.

This group was awarded to Pte Joseph Harding who attested in July 1899. His attestation papers have survived and are to be found in Cape Town.

Frank, I have to agree with you.

Hello Adrian,
I had an email from another member of this forum today advising of items on bid or buy, I had to laugh as buying stuff is not the issue here, it is finding the money to pay for it, so I'm really not interested in running the ever present risks with the SA post office when I really don't need to, moreover, you get so many in SA who will not sell overseas anyway.
Regards Frank

Adrian,

This pair from City Coins reminded me to check the number of CGHGSM to the Cape Police and I see there were some 900 issues, nearly 1 in every 5 of the total CGHGSMs awarded.

CGHGSM (1) Bechuanaland (232 Pte J.W. Kutcher C.Pol.)
QSA (3) CC OFS 01 (232 Pte J.W. Kutcher Cape Police Dis.1)

Best wishes
David

Hello David,

Yes that is correct and with the vast majority earning the Bechuanaland clasp.

The CGHGS medal roll has him down as Kutchner rather than Kutcher all the other details are the same. His attestation papers are amongst those that have not survived.
