Hi'

I am new to this site.

I mainly collect coins, bur recently started collecting medals as well.

I have an ABO medal issued to Burger C.J. Peters

I can't seem to find any info on this person and have no clue where to even begin.

Can anybody point me in the right direction for research?

The only info I could find on a C.J Peters here was this:
Peters C J Stoker QSA (1) CC. Ref: 284.461.
Source: QSA medal rolls
Unit: HMS Sybille

Surely not the same person?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Regards,
Brian

Hello Brian and welcome.

I have the ABO medal rolls at home and will gladly have a look for you. These show entitlement and which Commando he served in.

The actual ABO application forms, "Vorm B" are available and they show what actions he would have been involved in, whether he was POW, his NOK and address etc.

The following chap can get it for you.

He is Dewald Nel and his contact email is: [email protected]

Brian,

Pleasure.

At first glance he is not on the POW lists so perhaps he was one of the "Bitter Einders"

I will get back to you this evening.

Hi Adrian,

The only info I have heard, (don't know whether or not this is true...) :side:

Apparently he was in Cape colony which was under British rule. He fled to the Orange Free state where he joined the Boers to fight against the British who at that stage considered him as a traitor and were looking for him.

I don't know if this makes any sense to you. haha.

I am still learning.

Can't wait to hear from you this evening!

Hi Brian
Are you referring to Burger C J Peterson? There is no C J Peters on the ABO roll.

Peterson was in the Vryheid Commando : I sold the medal in 2007
