I have acquired a no clasp QSA to Mr. R. King, District Engineer.

This worthy enjoys an extensive write up in that veritable font of information on Natal Colonials - the 20th Century Impressions of Natal - published in 1906.

In the write up mention is made that King made it into Ladysmith from Newcastle just before the Siege and was holed up there until the Relief.

My question relates to the fact that the article claims that he was Mentioned in Dispatches. I have searched the LG high and low to no avail - is there anyone who can assist with the information.

Regards

Rory

Rory,

I had a look at the LG and also the original (well my copy anyway) of the mentions for the Boer War, I could not find him anywhere.

Hi David

It's named to Mr. R. King. District Engineer.

I just can't find a M.I.D. mention.

I'm still in the hunt for this chaps MID mention but can claim the satisfaction of having come on in leaps and bounds with his research.

Robert King was actually Robert Fyfe King and, quite aside from his Admittance Form as an Engineer which I found on Ancestry, a wealth of information is in the Natal Archives which I have now copied and will use to tell his story at a later date.

Thsi internet animal is really a wonderful thing if one just knew how to use it properly

Hi Rory

In an article by Brian Thomas on Casualties of the 1906 Campaign, published many years ago in the MMSSA Journal, mention is made of a SgtMaj R F King, Zululand MR, who was wounded.

Could this be the same man?
