Good Morning Everyone.......

For your viewing pleasure.....

Please find attached a picture of the 5 Canadian members of "The South African Constabulary" who have been awarded the Gallantry Badge......

There were 83 awarded in total and 24 to Canadians......

When Baden-Powell nominated members of the SAC for awards, i.e. the Distinguished Conduct Medal etc. the British Government said that the SAC was not entitled to receive any Gallantry Medals...... So therefore he designed his own system of awards...... It is a long story which I will go into later but the British Government finally relented..... One of the most famous was Surgeon Captain Martin-Leake who won his first VC with the SAC..... I have seen a picture of him also wearing a Gallantry Badge.....

They were issued in Cloth and Metal one for their Dress Uniform and one for their Work Uniform......

Reference the photo of the five winners. I too have the same photo. All identified on the front. On the back is "Best wishes to Miss A. Bealson from Will Gibbons." The back is R24/11/02. I may have the woman's name a little off. Hard to read the writing. If the above is the same photo with same quote on back, something fishy is going on with the photo. Glad I didn't spend too much on it. Found it in a antique store in Kansas, USA.
