On my routine daily scan of dealer's sites, I noted that Bill Friar Medals (with whom I have no commercial arrangement apart from buying the odd item) has available the BSACo medal (1896 Rhodesia rev.) to "Tpr. R.S. BRUCE, MRF".
The recipient is stated as having been wounded in action during the Raid (GSW, right thigh) and the medal is supported by copy paperwork. Asking price is a fiver under STG3k.
A quick scan through the Owen BSACo medal roll does not show any R.S.BRUCE - and I appreciate that the reference could be in error. Is there a list somewhere of "Raiders" or is there a source other than the Owen roll? I am not looking for a free search, by the way! Already have a JR.

Hello Ian,
How much is it and is the medal actually named R S Bruce?
The only Bruce to have served in the MRF, was Trooper S Bruce, he also rode in Dr Jameson's force and was wounded in the right thigh.
His poor wife, back at their family home in Dundee Scotland, must have been worried by the news, when she eventually received it, but, doubtless very grateful that he had survived the mad adventure!
Who have you got and how much do you know about him, they can often be a pain to research.
Kind regards Frank

Ian,

Your message identified that my list of Jameson men has not been uploaded to the site. I have now rectified this and added the 512 men.

It's 2995 pounds.

Even to someone wounded that is a lot in my opinion.

For reference I recently, for 1500 pounds, bought a group of Cape Medal, QSA, and WW1 trio to a raider.

For that money I would want a DCM on the front of it.

But that is just me. I have never seen a casualty raider though...

BSAC MEDAL TO JAMESON RAIDER CASUALTY. ef cond.
VIC BSAC MEDAL RHODESIA 1896 MEDAL TO TROOP,R S BRUCE, M.R.F. TROOPER S BRUCE WAS A MEMBER OF THE ILL FATED EXPEDITION LED BY DR JAMESON TO OVERTHROW THE KRUGER GOVERNMENT OF SOUTH AFRICA DEC 1895. AN HISTORICAL EVENT IN THE HISTORY OF SOUTH AFRICA WHICH IF SUCCESFUL WOULD HAVE ALTERED SOUTH AFRICA ,S HISTORY AS WE KNOW IT. 65 CASUALTIES WERE SUSTAINED IN THE DOOMED ATTEMPT IN WHICH TROOPER S. BRUCE SUFFERED GUNSHOT WOUND RIGHT THIGH. A VERY RARE MEDAL TO CONFIRMED JAMESON RAIDER AND ESPECIALLY SO TO A CASUALTY. WITH COPY PAPERWORK CONFIRMING AND WRITE - UP OF RAID. AN ABSOLUTE EXAMPLE OF THIS SOUGHT AFTER CAMPAIGN MEDAL

Ryan,

I side with you on that. It will be interesting to see if the medal sells.

Best wishes
David
