Thanks for that, I have just downloaded the service record for WW1 as well as that he received a silver war badge. ( is this the same as a pension record or is that another document?).
The WW1 service record just makes reference to his service with the 20th Hussars which ended in 1905, no other details, can anybody advise me if there is a separate service record for the Boer war soldiers?

Thanks for all the guidance.

Jack,
More often that not the original papers are actually found together in WO364, however, in this case they are not, had he not joined the special reserve in the Great War, you would expect to find them in WO97, almost all of which has been digitised and is availble via FMP.

Help anybody!!, I have downloaded Arthur Leighton's 20th Hussars record, however it is only a card with his name and corps, with Action taken: list 7/332.
Is there any other way that I can find out details of his Boer war service?

If you have done a on line search in WO97 and found nothing, then his original papers are unlikely to have survived, when you say that you have downloaded his record, what are you actually talking about?

Hope I have described it correctly, it is a card type record, 1 page only, top part has name, corps, reg no.date of discharge, cause of discharge printed, underneath it only has his name and corps completed, then (printed: date of application (a)badge (b) medal, address of applicant and action taken, the only part completed is against action taken which says "list 7/332.

The card reference ( bottom left of card) is : W5658-8733 60,000 8/16 HWV(P915) G16/1202
9189-1123 8 200,000 11/16

Cannot see anything else, am I looking in the right place?
regards
Jack
