QSA (1) Relief of Ladysmith (3353 Pte. H. Benning, Rl: Wt: Surrey Regt.)

H. Benning served with the 2nd Battalion, Royal West Surrey Regiment in South Africa during the Boer War, and was killed in action at Spearman’s Camp on 21 January 1900.

QSA (1) Relief of Ladysmith (Tpr. S. G. Wood. Colonial Scouts.) impressed naming.

Sydney Garnet Wood served in the Colonial Scouts from 2 December 1899 to 20 March 1900.

His QSA is confirmed on WO100/242p188. Medal issued 10 April 1908.

Khedive’s Sudan 1896-1908, (1) Khartoum (3348. Pte. J. Stinson. 2nd L.F.)

John Stinson was born at Rochdale, Lancashire, and enlisted into the Lancashire Fusiliers at Bury on 29 July 1890, aged 20 years 4 months. He deserted on 4 January 1891, but re-enlisted in October 1895, and served with the 2nd Battalion in the Sudan campaign in 1898.

He was killed in action at Spion Kop on 24 January 1900.

Hammer £2,400.

QSA (1) Relief of Ladysmith (3088 Pte. A. Donachy, Scottish Rifles) extremely fine

Private A. Donachy was killed in action at Spion Kop, 24 January 1900.



QSA (1) Relief of Ladysmith (5216 Pte. H. Russell, Scot: Rifles.)

Private H. Russell was one of two men of the Scottish Rifles killed in action at Colenso on 23 January 1900, the day before the fateful attack on Spion Kop.

QSA (1) Relief of Ladysmith (4214 Cpl. H. Arnold. Middlesex Regt.)

H J Arnold attested for the Middlesex Regiment and served with the 2nd Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War. He was killed in action at Spion Kop on 24 January 1900, on which date the battalion suffered 4 Officers and 38 men killed, and 4 Officers and 49 men wounded.
