Hello to you all,

I cam across this forum and was trying to find out more about how one can go about s claiming a medal. I spoke to a gentleman a while back from one of the South African Boer war site mentioned that family can claim medals that have not been claimed if they can prove it. I have affidavit that mentions the war my great great... grandfather fought in and under which and it mentions the regiment I am not sure if that is the correct terminology but its the only way I could describe it.

He was a Commando. If anyone can help me or give me some advice I would greatly appreciate it. As I would like to see if I could get it as it is a part of my history and that of my children that I would like to pass down very sentimental.

Thanks to you all in advance for any help and advice

Good Afternoon.....

There are 2 "George Henry Parker's" and 1 G.H. Parker on Find My Past......

One is English Imperial Yeomanry and the other two are in South African Units......

The Boers were organized in Commando's not British during the Boer War.....

Hi Mike,

I have had a look at that already and keep having to say the same thing over and over my George Henry Parker fought for the Boer side.

As I am very aware of the difference between the regiments, hence the reason I asked.

Although he was originally from the UK somewhere where with out a shadow of dought it was the boer side he fought for I will need to go through my notes and find the copy of the affidavit and post a copy if that will help clarify things.

Regards Lee-Ann

To the best of my knowledge the last claimant for the Anglo Boere Oorlog Medalje was in the 1980's.

I think they stopped issuing medals after that which, even though you can prove your relative was there, means that you won't be able to get a medal issued for him. I don't think there are any stocks of these medals left

Regards

Rory

Hi Rory,

Thank you for that is there any way then of been able to find out what sort of medal it would of been so I can at least try and look and see what it looks like. You talk about stocks of these medals been left where and who would hold this information as I willing to try even if it comes up been uneventful I can at least make reference to what he would of been entitled to.
