Lake | William Wellington | | Surgeon Lieutenant Colonel | He died of Bright's disease at Bloemfontein July 13th, 1900. He was educated at St Thomas's Hospital, and admitted a Licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeons, England, in 1877. Lieutenant Colonel Lake was afterwards obstetric House Physician at St Thomas's Hospital, and House Physician at the City of London Hospital for diseases of the chest. He had been Surgeon Major of the Militia Medical Staff Corps since July 1898, and, having volunteered for service in South Africa, went out with the Volunteer Company of the Royal Army Medical Corps, and was promoted a Lieutenant Colonel February 1900. He had seen active service as surgeon in the Ottoman Army, having been awarded the medal and Fourth Class of the Order of the Medjidie for his services during the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-78. He had held many public appointments, and was the author of several papers which were published in the professional journals.
