It's either a short name, beginning perhaps with J or H, such as Velkornet CAJ Jansen;
or a long name which he abbreviated, maybe Veldkornet W Janse van Rensburg ?
The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.

Looks like "Harn" to me, but the Bloemfontein POW database only comes up with a single "van Harn", and not a v.c. at that.

Thank you all for your feedback. Based on Neville's suggestion, perhaps "Harri", short for Harrismith?

As I read it " Vul a.u.b. in maanden by jaartallen van wanneer tot wanneer u dienst deed". In English : "Please add to the years the months from when to when you served".

Hi Everyone,

It's me again hoping for some more help as my Afrikaans is limited to high school level (from along time ago :blush: dis nie lekker nie)

I'm trying to transcribe the following Vorm C:

This is what my broken Afrikaans has attempted to decipher:

Kommando: ZAR Police Kommando

Date of Service: From 1899 until 1900 when wounded in the field and taken prisoner of war

Name of Officer: Commandant Van Dam

Nature/Details of Wounding: Prisoner of War wounded at Dalmanutha??

Date and place of wounding: ???..from 1899 to 1900

Ok so I know he was captured on the 27th August 1900; on that day the ZAR Police fought at Berg-en-daal / Dalmanutha.

His Form B also has the following note by the officials:

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could assist with any of the translation.

Thanks.
