Hi All,

I wonder if anybody might be able to help with any information on my great grandfather Spencer streeter, the only info i have at present is that he was born in Sussex and first served with the Hussars, he was then transferred to the Devonshire regiment and was severely wounded in the battle of Elandslaagte on 21st October 1899 aged 27 he then returned home and spent the remainder of his working life as a postman in Nutley.

Many thanks. Andy

Hi Andy,
And a warm welcome to the forum.
Your G.G Grandfather is listed as Wounded Severely on 21 Oct 1899 at Elandslaagte on Find My Past.
His service number was 4081 and he served with the 1st Battalion Devonshire Regt.
Ancestry medal rolls show him as receiving the QSA with clasp Elandslaagte.
Is the medal still within the family?
Good luck with your further research.

Paul :)

Hi Paul,
Many thanks for your reply and welcome, and for the information,

Unfortunatley I don't have the medal, and at present I'm unsure on its current whereabouts, I only have an old photo showing Spencer' and his brother Edward both in uniform with their families taken about 1911, since first seeing the photo I have been trying to find out both spencer and Edwards military pasts.
Kind regards. Andy

Hi Andy,
Glad to help, its a great shame the medal is not within the family, hope you can trace it.
I am sure the forum members would like to see the photograph when you get the time.
Found another link for you.

I have a few Devons QSA's in my collection and found this site informative.
