In my continuing search for information on the Native Scouts of Natal, I came across the book with the title page and index shown below. The chapters are written by contemporary historians and the content is more academic than popular. It isn't light reading and only a few of the chapters were of interest to me, but I thought it worth mentioning here, since it is fairly cheap (US$12) and may also be available either in libraries or on inter-library loan.

With all the talk about books on the Boer War, this snippet from the Illustrated London News from 29 Nov 1902 made me smile:

A new book to add to my collection courtesy of ebay.

THANK GOD WE KEPT THE FLAG FLYING
THE SIEGE & RELIEF OF LADYSMITH 1899-1900 by KENNETH GRIFFITH - 1st 1974

Have not seen this book before so pleasantly suprised when I glanced through it last night,
a concise account supplimented with nice maps.
Minus its dust jacket but it was very low priced.
Looking forward to reading.

Hello Paul,
Rather surprised you had not heard of this book, super pic of Kenneth, he played "Arthur Witty" in "The Wild Geese" along side Richard Burton, Roger Moore and Richard Harris and the rest! :woohoo:
