Hello Paul,
What I did was to get a couple of casualties for each particular action that Buller's men took part in on their way to Ladysmith, so I like your medal, but don't forget the Natal Volunteers and SAMIF, they were engaged too, from the very begining.
Kind regards Frank

Yes a Rifle Brigade was missing from my collection and I have recently read about the last battles before the relief so this one caught my attention.

Paul :)

Well, I can see why you bought that, I was very keen on Natal when I started collecting and that is a good honest medal of the type I would have bought, I hope you are pleased with it, the fight for Ladysmith was very intense indeed.
Kind regards Frank

Paul,
Having said that, I would say that if you get the chance and have the tin to pay for it, you should get one of "No Bobs" men who got stuck in the Tugela loop, they came under very intense mauser fire from three sides, worth having if you can find one! :)
Regards again Frank

The first QSA I bought on an auction was to a man caught in the 'Loop' crossfire - a Royal Dublin Fusiliers Sergeant who had gunshot wounds in the hand and foot.

His WWI trio was sold as a separate lot and I think this is the only time I have re-united medals.

Regards
Brett

While all the excitement went on at Wakefield, medal collectors in the old Colony of Natal were party to the sale of a medal collection of one of its members who died recently. Although it was intended to be a local affair, through word of mouth three sales were made in Australia, one in the United States and one in Cape Town. The Boer War was well represented in the collection.
