Sorry for the late reply, busy as usual, or at least I think I am! Yes, great to meet you too and thanks to your wife who didn't mind me asking her if she went there often :)

I think I was on much better form on this visit and wondered what I did wrong last time. Most dealers felt it was quiet and not much money was flowing, so good for us collectors.

I did get two groups which I will post at the weekend. I have also just posted on another thread that I got an offer of a Lancs Fusiliers Sudan pair with a QSA KiA Spion Kop, Xmas or what! just had to have that!

So I do have a couple to move on and not sure if we can do that for fellow members on the site, if someone can advise please, obviously at no profit and only if the price is right for you!

Doug.

Hi all

As promised, the two items I purchased at Wakefield last week:

1. The group of five for Cpl/Pte F.L. Tillett - Rifle Brigade & H.L.I. A straight forward purchase, which I just really liked because he was wounded at Vaal Krantz and a complete group with some research from being a postman in Norwich, also the mention in the LG for the ISM

2. A Pair to 2956 Pte T Russell - 2nd Yorks & Lancs Regt. This pair was quite different. On seeing it, bearing in mind there was no mention of anything, I asked what, if anything, happened to the recipient because of the two bars on the QSA. I was told it was unresearched, so with the magic of the iPhone and Ancestry, he came up as a Spion Kop casualty. A short exchange of views later and it was purchased. I did mention then that it was a casualty and knowing the seller well, exclaimed he must have known, but not it would appear!! The medals check out and on the QSA roll, it simply states discharged as it might, but on the casualty roll, there he is as being wounded at SK.

Anyway, I am looking forward to doing the work on these over the coming festive period :woohoo: ;)

Hi Doug,

Well done on your new acquisitions ;)
I must admit I had looked at the R.B. group a few times and thought it would be a good research project, good luck.

Well done on the Y&L pair and well spotted, another worthy of more research :)

See you at Wakefield in Feb?

Cheers
Paul :)

Chaps

Thanks for that and I will keep you up to date with anything interesting. Just another question and taking these two groups as an example, apart from the normal medal roll, census, casualty roll, what else should I be looking for?

Paul

Oh yes, I think it is well worth a monthly visit, even for a good chat!!

Doug.
