Lord Roberts, The Stirling Medal, 1900.
Ref: AM 167; Hern 156; Laidlaw 0333.
Bronze/copper. Fitted with integral loop, 51 x 31 mm., 9.06 grams.
Artist: Vaughton of Birmingham

Presumably distributed to children in Stirling to honour and celebrate Lord Roberts as Commander in Chief and the occupation of the Boer capitals of Bloemfontein and Pretoria.

First founded by Paul Vaughton in 1819, the firm P Vaughton & Son were well-known in Birmingham advertising themselves as “the business of a Silversmith, goldsmith and General Manufacturer”. They are perhaps best known for their manufacture of the prestigious F A Cup and the series of 1908 Olympic medals.
