Whilst there is no doubt whatsoever that medals are very nice indeed, they are really a personalised commemorative token that was never intended to be thrown away, however, letters, diaries, drawings and to a lesser extent, even uniform and certain badges, have all really had a "shelf life" and these are always far rarer than medals, they are contemporary to the Anglo Boer War, not only are they rare, but, on occasion, they can, quite rightly, command a high price and be very expensive indeed.
