I am trying to find out information about my Great Grandfather who served in the Grenadier Guards in the late 19th and early 20th century.

His name was James Stanley Harrison and he was Drill Sergeant. As I understand it he served in the Anglo Boer War and when I was a guest at a recent reception at Goodwood I happened upon the attached framed archive relating to the 3rd Battalion the Grenadier Guards, in which he appears to be listed.

When I was younger my grandmother gave me a magnificent photograph of him and I am very interested in piecing together a better understanding of the life he led.

3736 is Joseph Harrison so we can discount him.

There are no papers for the other two men.

It is a shame he is not wearing his medal in the photo or we could have identified which number belongs to him.

David,
That is really appreciated. I have sent a note to the archivist for the GG's but nothing back there.
It's sad as the only record I have of him is the photo. I am very much hoping that the Goodwood document was serendipity and a call to action!
In the end he emigrated to Australia, that much I do know.
Would you have any advice on what I should do next?
Best
Michael
