Adrian, Thank you very much for all your help and information. I knew this was a good forum!

If SA 1901 clasps were prone to going missing I presume getting a genuine replacement might not be easy?

Frank, I'm in the UK

Patrick

Thank you very much. Fascinating. What is the number which looks like 584 in front of 'IHC'? Is this his IHC number, or did he carry 1333 throughout his military career?

Patrick,
I have to get back to the office right now, but, I'm sure that Adrian will continue here and now this afternoon, I'll be around later, in addition to the information Adrian has given, you will also find his original Imperial Light Infantry attestation and discharge paper in WO126/55-65 and the same in WO126/52-54 for his service in the Imperial Hospital Corps at Kew.
Catch you later Pratrick,
Regards Frank

Hello Patrick,

Great news that his attestation papers for both ILI and the IHC have survived. His Attestation paper for the IHC might confirm his Regimental number.

Adrian and Frank

I'm getting intrigued, and confused! Through Ancestry I've found an IHC medal roll WO100 249, page 40, which, if I'm reading it correctly, shows J Milligan 584 entitled to Transvaal and Natal clasps, with nothing for ROL and an X under SA01 and OFS. Also has his ILI number as 1323, not 1333.Two dates of issue -30/1/03 and 30/7/06.
Help!

Regards

Patrick
