Can I enquire why he would have had the 1914-1915 star, but not the victory medal?

I think the Star was self-awarded Rob - hence the dodgy naming. To get the Victory Medal you had to have either the Star and/or the British War Medal. Anderson may well not have earned the Victory Medal - the presence of a British War Medal and Mercantile Marine Medal is all he earned according to the medal card Stefan attached.

Rory wrote: The Medal Card you provided is in respect of both the Mercantile Marine Medal and the British War Medal that was awarded to him Stefan. You have them both in your group. He was probably not entitled to the 1914-15 Star which is why he had one named up to him. Likewise, it is probable that he was not awarded the Victory Medal which is, anyway, not with the group you bought.

Apropos the Brabant's Horse QSA which is renamed - I don't remember seeing the rim of this medal but my friend did say it was renamed. There was a J P Anderson who served in Brabant's with no. 4062. What no. appears on your QSA medal?

Rory

Yes, 4062 would also be my best match, but the medal says 23474. I have all facts in my first post.

I will try to get photos of all rims, but they are rather hard to focus in on.

Would Mercantile Marine crew be entitled to Wear the Royal Navy's overseas service chevron?

So, that's what the "rank insigna" is - thanks Rob.

Another piece of puzzle to use for me.

Yes, perhaps, according to this text:
"Collection 425/1296 Chevrons for overseas service: award of war service chevrons to men and officers (including mercantile marine) who have served overseas, whether they have been engaged in the field or not."
