This little tin contained some unexpected treasures - clearly the product of a house clearance or "skip find", it and its contents worked their way into my possession this morning. Pte. John Buckley joined the 5th Battalion, Manchester Regiment and saw service in the Boer War with their Mounted Infantry section. He went on to serve in the Balkans in WWI with the West Riding Regiment. His death was presumed on 12 August 1915 (his body was never found). According to the Regimental Diary for that day, the W.R.R. were shelled when crossing the Salt Lake "and suffered a few casualties. This was in the Chocolate Hill/Sulavik area.

The Irish Sweepstakes ticket is hard to read but it refers to an Anne Buckley of Green... in Oldham, Lancashire. All were contained in the rusty little tin. Can anyone make out the lady's address?

Not sure about Green Road now, could it possibly be Trentley / Trentham / Trent Rd Nr Oldham,. I'm struggling even more with the second line .

I took the liberty of darkening the pic, to bring up the writing. To me, the address looks like :
Higham [?] Gardens
Greenfield Rd Oldham
Lancashire
Regards
Arthur

I tried altering the exposure

There is a Greenfield Road, Old Swan, Liverpool but I agree with Dave that the first letter looks much more like a T

I looked up Lynne (?) Buckley but there are quite a few people of that name.

Speculatively - "Higher Hartshead, Green Farm Road, near Oldham, Lancashire"? Higher Hartshead is about 2 miles south-east of Oldham town centre (OL6 9AF). There's an unnamed lane or open track off Lily Lanes, in Higher Hartshead, on which Hartshead Green Farm is situated - perhaps known locally as Green Farm Road?
