Just looking again at the H H Paris medal roll. There is also a member of the Town Guard, listed as a member, issued in 1911 with the Talana bar, the same time the roll states Paris was issued with a duplicate and refused to return it. I am sure that you can shed some light on it, as I can't access your book currently being in a rented house full of boxes!!

Doug,

The Dundee TG roll (WO100/281p20) lists Member H H Paris and a note says 'Natal Official roll'.

'68/SA/1215' on the roll is a note to further correspondence about the issue. This is dated 6 Jul 1911.

My notes say: Occupation Special Clerk, Telegraph Department 19 Dec 1888. Postmaster and Telegraph Officer, Dundee, 1 Jan 1898. Civilian Government employee 1899 to 1902. Acting Postmaster, Ladysmith, 1 Aug to 14 Dec 1902. Acting Postmaster, PMB, 19 Oct 1903. Controller of Telegraphs, PMB, 1 Jul 1904.

Pat's book has a page and a half about him.

The Civilian Government Employees roll (WO100/279p242) lists Paris and the note saying he refused to return the duplicate.

So, do we conclude this is the QSA issued from 100.279 and that somewhere is the single clasp QSA impressed to the Dundee TG?

Sounds rather plausible to me. I wonder if, post H H Paris, that his family found the medals and the correspondence, and perhaps returned one?

Looks like it stayed in the UK though!
