Thanks Mike-I saw these on ebay and was a bit interested in the naming on the Lieutenants medal-it appeared to be impressed and not engraved. So I searched this topic on our forum, all 14 pages and saw some eye watering groups but no examples of naming style has anybody got any examples they could post?

Mr Wells is on his way to me as I write....

Impressed or engraved its a nice medal to a man who was the Market Master of Kimberley before during and after the Siege.

Not all medals to Colonial Officers were engraved - I have several examples where the naming is impressed as per those issued to the rank and file.

Rory

Hi Rory,

I am pleased this medal is going to a good home-I look forward to reading the article you will eventually write on Wells.

George,

My experience, based on QSAs that I have seen, is that the colonial officers' medals are predominantly impressed but with a large proportion being engraved.

I will see if I can find some pictures from my DoK archive.

I am unsure whether you are referring to DofK officers' medals being impressed or engraved - or else Colonial officers generally being one or the other. However, I did a quick check and of the six Colonial officer's medals in my collection, three are engraved and three are impressed. Five QSAs to Imperial officers are in my collection; four are engraved and one is impressed.

IL.
