All the McKenzie items have been withdrawn from the sale without explanation.

LOL, one wonders if they were ever really for sale in the first place!

In my opinion the present situation would not have arisen if the McKenzie relics had been consigned for sale to a specialist medals/militaria auction house. The orders and medals would then have been offered as a single lot and they would have been properly described. Also, as far as I remember, there was no mention of the missing CB breast badge. Since McKenzie was such an important figure in Natal's history, an adequate biography of the man should have been included.

Frank and others

Your comments and, in some cases, criticisms are noted and have been passed on to the auctioneer.

I have been reliably informed that the only reason why they have been removed from sale is because of a disagreement in the family, something I'm sure we have all had experience of at some time or another.

The medals, uniforms and other ephemera will now most likely go on permanent display at a prominent public school in the area.

I know the auctioneer who is understandably cut up about the matter. If for no other reason it would have been informative to see what prices were realised.

A certain Peer of the Realm telephoned to ask how the bidding process worked - I mention this to indicate at what level interest was being shown.

The whole matter is unfortunate.

Guys

I'm quite sure that a large number of "serious collectors" are saddened by this news.

This just goes to show that when medal groups are placed on the market it should be cleared by all related family members, this is not the first and certainly won't be the last such episode.

Brian

Good morning Brett,
I agree, I never enjoy seeing any medals being sold at a second rate saleroom that cannot even bother to descrbe them properly, medals always deserve better than that.
Kind regards Frank
