Hi

Here is a fun item to show on this thread

QSA - CC - 3 Sjt J D Logan Matjesfontein DMT

He is was the son the the commanding officer the famous "JD" Logan. Note the CC bar loose on the ribbon. I think the DMT claimed the bar but it was never awarded.

He must have added it himself years later.

Kind regards

Munroe

Hello Munroe,

Thank you for the addition of this fine QSA to the thread. Very nice indeed to see a QSA to the Matjiesfontein DMT.

I have often thought, was there really a need for a DMT in Matjiesfontein, considering the rather large concentration of British Troops in the area throughout the war?

A great medal! Thank you for showing it. I have a vague memory of the QSA belonging to the "Laird of Matjiesfontein" being sold in Cape Town (not by City Coins) several years ago for a record price, possibly R40 000.

Adrian

Perhaps the Matjiesfontein DMT was called out to keep the British troops out of the Lord Milner, so the locals could drink in peace?

Brett

David,

The Roll WO 100/283 page 208 has an interesting remark which shows" Took part in the Battle of Belmont by permission of Lord Methuen"
