Good morning. Thank you very much indeed for your help. I found a photograph of his grave on this website.

Don't thank me, I didn't do anything, so what is your interest in this particular soldier, was he family or are you a medal collector, or another reason perhaps?

You certainly did help. I don't know a great deal about the Boer War and am grateful for assistance. You said " after exhumation at Albert's Post, subsequently interred at Dewetsdorp" from which I found the photographs of his grave. Am also interested in "Albert's Post" was this where the action took place?

I'm not related but am interested in local history and help run a Facebook page that publishes small articles of local interest. William McDonald came from Aberfeldy, as do I.

Re medals. Wife would kill me if took that up.

Okay, so a local man then, Aberfeldy, wow, there is a distillery there!

I think we are both in the hands of Steve Watt, you would be getting in quite deep into the regimental history with this.
Perhaps take a look at Colvin and Gordon who wrote up a very detailed history of the regiment in 1904, it only covers the Anglo Boer War.
To be honest, I have collected to the Magpies for many years now, it was always a favourite regiment, but, yes, you do see this sort of thing quite a lot, soldiers were sometime given a Christian burial close to where a particular action took place.
Regarding medals, I suspect your wife is very sensible indeed.

Forgive me so many questions. Who is Steve Watt? (I should probably know?)

Yes indeed there is a very famous distillery, a stone's throw from my house.

Check this newspaper clip what do make of it? (MacDonal/McDonald often used and means little)
