hello David
the only information I have is taken from a letter he wrote to his parents
I have only his first name 'Jack' and as he wrote "loving son" am assuming his surname was Rogers (as addressed)
The letter head states " May 28th 01 Vet River Station O.R.C. Essex Coy Burma M.I. Field Force S.A."
The envelope was addressed to "Mrs. F Rogers Church Lane Bocking Nr. Braintree Essex."

John,

He could be 4490 Private J Rogers of the 2nd Essex Regiment.

This is taken from the KSA roll (WO100/335p205):

John
Known to me and the Army as John Rogers. I have his medals in my collection....a unique group to the Essex Regt. QSA/KSA with Burma MI company.
“Pt J Rogers 4490, 2nd Essex Regiment, was severely wounded in his neck at Hartenbosch, near Buitfontein, on April 8” Essex County Chronicle, 18 April 1902 p6
John enlisted in 1895 and, while he served over 11 years with the 1st Bn, he earned all his medals while serving with 2nd Bn. He earned his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1913, and went to France with 2nd Bn 22 August 1914. 1914 Star & bar trio. Finally made it above Private in 1915, rapidly being promoted to Sgt. Wounded in 1916 [presumably October], and returned to the UK in early November 1916. After a spell in the Labour Corps, he was back in the Essex Regt in March 1918 and finally discharged in April 1919 after 24 years' service. Oh, and he won the Military Medal in 1916 and was an in-pensioner at Chelsea from April 1953 until he died in August 1954!
Would be interested in scan of the letter if possible.
Best wishes

Ian
