David,

Have you located 21 Sweeper Rooldu on the QSA roll? I am having trouble finding him.

With thanks
David

The footnote for the medal to Pte S Pickles says

The Regimental History states that the 2nd Battalion of the Dukes, at Rangoon, sent a company of five officers and 103 other ranks, under Captain J.A.C. Gibbs, to join what was known as the Burma Mounted Infantry Regiment, drawn from the four infantry battalions stationed in that country. These were 2nd Staffs, 2nd Essex, 2nd Durh. LI. and 2nd W. Riding Regiment.

I can see the men from all the regiments except the 2nd Staff.

I have a list of the 110 men of the DLI. 75 from the WRR and just 2 so far from the Essex Regiment but I note on the roll the mention of them joining the BMI.

Sorry David no. Nor can I find evidence of the BMI receiving bronze medals. The catalogue of Indian Rolls, together with the dates & numbers of medals issued, is bound in the first few pages of the roll WO 100/296. There is no evidence there that bronze medals were issued from the Indian rolls for the BMI . Previously I have managed to establish that a Corps of Guides bronze medal was issued despite there being a missing roll. See angloboerwar.com/forum/5-medals-and-awar...tingent?limitstart=0
I presume he was issued off the British Rolls but I can not find him as yet.
Looking for Salutries, Salootries and Veterinary Duffadars.
I collect primarily QSAs to Indian Recipients.

I have continued to search but cannot find a roll for the BMI. It could be that the roll is hidden in another roll as does happen very occasionally but on the basis of what I have seen so far, I am tempted to conclude that no medals were issued to the BMI. Very happy to be proved wrong on this.

Agree there is no BMI roll excitant but there does remain this anomaly from the OMRS Journal quoted above.
