Morning Iain,
You have the medal, I can only go of the image you provided, the last letter is an S, the letter next to it is certainly not, is the letter an E or an F?
I was looking at the initials, a P and an I, of course the if the letter next to the last is an F, it could still be an error in naming.
Notwithstanding, you certainly need to get hold of Vorm B next.
Then I would have it reconstituted as a medal and add a piece of original ribbon.
Regards Frank

God morning Frank,

I read it as P.I. DEETLEES; whilst the last E appears to be an F, the bottom bar has damage but I'm 99% certain that there is a trace of the bottom bar.

You mention Vorm B; what is that please?

regards, Iain

Hello Iain,
Well, I am going to stick with my initial thoughts when I first glanced at your photograph and because of both initials on the medal, I assume Petrus Ignatius Deetless, as Adrian has shown, but, with a possible error in the medals naming, whether or not he is the man, or indeed, boy, that Rory suggests is another matter, if he were, then you would have a very rare medal.
Vorm B was the application for the medal and it will give you some more details of exact service and more importantly resolve the issue of his name.

Sorry Gentlemen, but there was also a WWI Victory medal amongst this bag which I didn't pay too much attention to as it had a broken suspender, (Frank.)
The medal is named to a Gunner of the SAHA by the name of JP DEETLEFS, so in all probability our man with the ABO is also Deetlefs but PI of course

Sorry that I didn't notice this earlier.

regards, Iain

The answers are in Pretoria, if you go down the avenue I suggested with the ABO, make sure you get the work done properly, I'm sure if you liaise with Adrian and Rory, they would point you in the right direction.
