It appears he only joined the SAMIF in 1901 so he would not have gained the 18 months needed for the KSA.

The combination is quite common. I imagine he would have left the SAMIF after peace was declared in May 1902 and then rejoined for the Rebellion in 1906.

He is listed in the nominal roll for the SAMIF, on page 31. Charles Edward. Joined 24 May 1901 and discharged 31 Aug 1902.

Hi Ian,

I notice that the nominal roll pages supplied by David also have his Surname as "Purdy" so it must have been a typo on the medal roll hence the "Purday" on the QSA.

His wife Ida, was a lot younger than him and was born in Tarkastad in 1903, she was only 3 years old when he qualified for the 1906 medal !!

Ida Leonora who is mentioned on the DN was born 22 Dec 1903 in Tarkastad and she passed away on the 22 June 1980 Kwa-Zulu Natal. She was married to Charles Edward PURDY who died in 1955 in Natal per NAAIRS.

Good heavens Iain, medals, that's not like you, Father Christmas appears to be very generous these days, sadly, I think I must be in his Naughty Book!
There are no rank and file papers in Pietermaritzburg for the Natal Militia, however, I suspect a careful look through WO126/139-140 at Kew will bare fruit in respect of his SAMIF service, otherwise it will be biographical detail only I'm afraid.
Notwithstanding, certainly a superb pair, I would be very pleased with those if I were you.

I'm still a badge man but I picked these up with some badges I bought in a lot.
Also a KSA to a Munster Fusiliers Corporal, an ABO but with a broken clasp, a Zim independence medal and a couple of others.
