Good Morning Brett,
Just to let you know that I will as promised conclude this matter well within the time scale that I forecast.
Kind regards Frank

As usual when it comes to you, a simple 'thank you' seems inadequate, but I say it again anyway - thank you.

"Dicky" Gorton's medal is a very special one. Everything about it (except its price), including the overpolishing by his proud next-of-kin (probably Mum), appeal to me. Your additions to the record of the man behind the medal are welcome additions to the Gorton file. Now for his childhood and his rugby-playing career for the Transvaal and South Africa in the 1890's ............

Regards
Brett

Hello Brett,
I think you have got yourself a very good medal, I have been thinking a great deal about the ILH of late and just why it was they were held in such high regard, whilst looking at your man, I thought it would be rather fun to look once again at Sir George's dispatches, I had not really looked at them since I was a small boy.
Anyway Brett, I was very pleased and quite relieved that your man was present in WO126, though, not where he should have been, I was not looking forward to having to tell you that he was not there, moreover, I had expected to have to do just that.
As a fellow Imperial Light Horse collector, I do know what it means to you.
Kind regards Frank

PS,I do have several of those badges you mentioned, by the way!

My cup runneth over! I think you deserve a medal! Hearing from you is the 'good news' on 'bad news' days.

Good morning Brett,
The chances of my cup ever running over in these hard times are somewhat remote! :(
Now then, we could turn this thread around, tell me, what are your thoughts on the Lidgetten Rifle Association?
Kind regards Frank

I know someone who collects Rifle Association QSA's and it is evidently addictive. He has only two more RA's to get to complete his collection. All I can tell you is that they do come on to the local (South African) market from time to time, but they are by no means common and their prices reflect that.

It is worth knowing that in the case of the Weston RA, most medals were named on the Murray's Horse roll, so those named to Weston must be exceedingly rare. Also, in the case of the Upper Tugela RA, the only QSA I know of was named as if to a civilian (i.e. no number, rank or affiliation).

Regards
Brett
