Ian,

I looked at that picture and didn't take any notice of the rifle. It just goes to show what you miss if you don't have the requisite knowledge and how valuable is the wide knowledge of the forum members!

Best wishes

Thanks for that. I just now had a look at my notebook re the probable Boer-used KJ spotted some time ago; it was made by Steyr in Austria and was in pretty poor condition! A couple of hundred KJs apparently came with Scandinavian volunteers. Forum members might know if any 6.5x55mm cases have been located on any of the early battlefields.
I know it is off-topic - however, many years ago I ran across an illustrated report made by a South Australian Officer present at the ABW regarding the various ammunition types used by the Boer Republics. I had a look for it just now and cannot readily locate it. When I do, I will see if my photocopy is able to be posted in the proper place on the forum.
Best regards
IL.

Dear Brett

Thank you for the kind words. I am more general collector but Henk and Justin are amazing when it comes to the knowledge and information on medals.

Kind regards

Munroe

Brett,

Thanks also from me for your kind words but as Henk says we've been at it some years now.

I first researched a QSA for Henk exactly thirty years ago!

The highlight of these years has to be the discovery of the Queen's scarf he alluded to - I hope he'll post the story in due course. It's the jewel in the crown of his British Boer War collection.

All best wishes,

Justin

Dear Justin

I remember that happening - the Queens Scarf- Henk should tell the story. Its worth telling. Its stories like what happened that day that make medal collecting fun.

Come on Henk - tell the story - lets open a new thread on these types of stories - we all have a few and it will be fun

I have no idea what this story is about, but I'd certainly like to hear it.
