That is quite a price. I would probably prefer this medal from yesterday.

An interesting lot on eBay to someone who was at Elandslaagte but forfeited his QSA.

Described as:

Book of Poetry regarding the Boer War, on the front it is inscribed Sergeant D Andrew, 5th Lancers. Sgt Andrew was at Ladysmith and in the charge at Elandslaagte. Unfortunately for him he was court martialed for theft and his Medals were not awarded. So this book becomes more important as he is the only 5th Royal Irish Lancers entitled to the QSA with Elandslaagte and Ladysmith who did not receive the medal.

He was wounded and taken to Intombia Hospital. Went back to Ladysmith with the Relief Party. Also wounded at Belfast, but did not receive the Clasp!

The Book is inscribed to Betty McHie

Medal Roll on Ancestry states Medal not Awarded. FCM theft. Reduced to the Ranks + 2 year jail.

Another seller who claims, without any evidence whatsoever, that a man in the 5th Lancers took part in the charge at Elandslaagte. Depending on the squadron he served in he may have done but equally he may have been parked out on the extreme right of the British line and seen no action in the battle.

David,

We are going to have to try to define that divide at some point.
