If only. 'C' Squadron charged but, as 'The History of the British Cavalry Vol. 4' by the Marquis of Anglesey states, "'D' Squadron, 5th Lancers, on the right flank, was too distant to take part in the pursuit."

The trick is to identify the squadron a recipient of an Elandslaagte clasp served in but that's easier said than done.

I have to say that the assumption commonly made by dealers and sellers that all QSAs with an Elandslaagte clasp named to the 5th Lancers denote a confirmed charger is a source of some irritation to me. There are other common incorrect descriptions attached to medals too.

Far better to simply buy a pair to the 5th Dragoon Guards and on occasion, actually cheaper too!

David - The value of my collection just went up. I have a similar pair to Pte J Nieass that I paid £360 for about 23 years ago.

With all the add ons the successful bidder for the Guest pair will have to fork out
around £2300 in total.

David,

That is great news for you . The price for Guest's pair yesterday was a higher than many expected.
